With a few days to go until the start of a new year, we're taking stock of the top animated titles scheduled for theatrical release in 2026. Some are already confirmed with scheduled release dates, and some are still unscheduled, especially in the second half of the year. Here are the titles and release dates:
Charlie the Wonderdog
The main character is a dog who gains superpowers after being abducted by aliens. Together with his owner, they battle an evil cat that threatens humanity, while the dog becomes a famous superhero. With Owen Wilson voicing Charlie, the film is expected January 16 in Canada and in the following months in the rest of the world.
GOAT
Sony Pictures Animation returns with the sports comedy GOAT, starring a small goat with big dreams who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros and play roarball - a high-intensity, co-ed, full-contact sport dominated by the fastest, fiercest animals in the world. Will's new teammates aren't thrilled about having a little goat on their roster, but Will is determined to revolutionize the sport and prove once and for all that "smalls can ball!".
Hoppers
Pixar studios' film in which scientists have discovered a way to "shift" human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals! The adventure introduces Mabel, an animal lover who seizes the opportunity to use technology to uncover mysteries of the animal world beyond anything she could have imagined. It opens worldwide in March, arriving in theaters in USA on March 6.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
We return to the world of Nintendo's famous characters with the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster, featuring new characters, new powers, and above all, new locations. Producers Illumination's Christopher Meledandri and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto are ready to amaze fans again starting April 3.
Animal Farm
George Orwell's classic is being adapted into an animated film by multi-talented actor and motion-capture expert Andy Serkis. The story follows a group of farm animals who rebel against their human owners and take over the farm, only to face new challenges under the rule of a cunning pig named Napoleon. As their troubles escalate, the animals discover that revolution is just the beginning, and must find the courage to stand up to Napoleon and save Animal Farm.
Toy Story 5
In 2026, Pixar doubles down by bringing yet another sequel to the toy saga into their summer slot, introducing the new character Lilypad, a high-tech smart tablet in the shape of a frog who makes the jobs of Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang exponentially more difficult when they are faced with the new threat to their free time. In theaters June 19.
Minion 3
Illumination studios are also doubling down with the new sequel to the Despicable Me spin-off starring the legendary yellow-skinned troublemaking sidekicks created by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, which marks Coffin's return to directing. The avalanche of new laughs is expected in theaters from July 1st.
Asterix: The Kingdom of Nubia
The legendary characters by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo are back in a new animated feature film produced by French companies M6 Films and Superprod Animation. In this film, the diehard Gauls are transformed into harmless children after a rare elixir of youth accidentally ends up in the magic potion. To find the antidote, Asterix and Obelix embark on a crazy journey to the distant Kingdom of Nubia. In France theaters in October.
Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom
The third feature film of Shaun, the irreverent and creative sheep from the Aardman Animation studios returns with all his friends. On Halloween Eve at Mossy Bottom Farm, excitement turns to dismay when the clumsy Farmer ruins the pumpkin patch. Shaun tries fixing it with science experiments, but things go wrong when a wild beast appears in the woods. The film is due in UK theaters on October 31.
The Cat in the Hat
One of Dr. Seuss's most famous stories returns to the big screen in an animated version directed by Italian Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) together with Erica Rivinoja, the first animated feature film from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (formerly Warner Animation Group), with animation produced by Double Negative. The latest announced release date is November 2026.
Hexed
Disney is not missing the call with its Christmas film, an original fantasy film about a teenage boy and his mother who discover hidden magical powers and will feature a new Disney villain. The 65th classic, however, will not be a musical.
The Angry Birds Movie 3
At the end of the year, in time for the Christmas holidays, the third installment of the angry birds from the software house Rovio, inspired by the video game saga of the same name, is expected. Red and Chuck, along with their friends, are ready to return for more new, fun, and thrilling adventures.
Wildwood
The new film from Laika Entertainment, made primarily using stop-motion animation, is expected later this year. It is based on the best-selling book written by singer and leader of The Decemberists Colin Meloy and illustrated by Carson Ellis. Directed by studio president Travis Knight, it tells the adventure of a girl, Prue, who enters a magical forest on the outskirts of Portland to rescue her kidnapped brother, encountering talking animals and bandits in a world full of wonder and danger. The film promises to have breathtaking graphics.
