First animations for Aya and the Witch - new Studio Ghibli film

It is the new animated feature film produced by the well-known Studio Ghibli and titled Aya to Majo, whose very first animations have just been released.
The first animations are released by the network that produces it, NHK, which will distribute it on its own television channels in Japan on the last day of the year.

Running 82 minutes, the film Aya to Majo marks the Japanese animation studio's debut with a feature film made entirely with CGI animations, and directed by Hayao's son, Goro Miyazaki, and with the story inspired by the Diana Wynne Jones book Earwig and the Witch.

Hayao Miyazaki appears among the credits in the development and planning phases, while the veteran Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki produces the film.

Keiko Niwa (Ocean Waves, Tales from Earthsea, The Secret World of Arrietty, From Up On Poppy Hill, When Marnie Was There) and Emi Gunji (From Up On Poppy Hill assistant director) are writing the screenplay. Miho Satake, the illustrator of the novel's Japanese edition, is credited with the original character and setting designs, and Katsuya Kondo (Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo, Ronja the Robber's Daughter, From Up On Poppy Hill) is designing the characters for animation.

Premiere at Cannes Film Festival, it will be released in other markets around the world in 2021.
