Born January 21, 1967 in Tokyo, Japan. Son of the famous Hayao and the animator Akemi Ota.
Reluctant for a long time to follow in his father's footsteps, he was convinced by the producer Toshio Suzuki first to work at the Ghibli Museum and then for the Studio Ghibli. His first work is titled Gedo Senki and is based on The Earthsea Cycle of books by the American writer Ursula Le Guin.
Initially Suzuki gave the young Miyazaki the drafting of the storyboard and then the director, despite his father did not consider him yet ready to direct an animated film.
