Another graphic novel is preparing to invade the big screens around the world. Below the trailer and information of the European feature film Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness.
We return to Belgium at nWave Pictures studios (Robinson Crusoe, Bigfoot Junior, Sammy) to check out their new production coming out next year. It is titled Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness and is taken from the graphic novel written and illustrated by the American artist Chris Grine and published by Dark Horse Comics from 2006 to 2009 before its cancellation.

The film follows the adventures of Chickenhare, a young hero born half chicken and half hare, who was adopted by King Peter, a famous hare adventurer. Eager to fit in and feel loved in spite of his differences, Chickenhare is obsessed with adventuring - no matter how clumsy he is. When the Kingdom's greatest villain escapes from jail and threatens to overthrow his father, Chickenhare embarks on an epic and initiatory quest along with Abe, a sarcastic turtle, and Meg, a martial arts expert skunk, to stop him.

The rights to make the film were owned by Sony Pictures Animation but the film was never developed. Ben Stassen, founder of the Belgian animation studios, said he "stumbled" on the script in Sony's hand and, after reading and loving it, asked Sony if they could develop this project for them, with full approval from the American studios.

Directors of the film are Stassen together with Benjamin Mousquet, veteran animator of the studios, with a screenplay written by David Collard (Family Guy, The Wild).

Expected in theaters in France from February 2022, here is an official trailer:
