The third anime film in the Mononoke the Movie series, which was released in Japanese theaters in May, will arrive on the streaming platform next month.
Mononoke The Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent, orig. Gekijoban Mononoke Dai-San-Sho: Hebigami, is the third cinematic installment in the Mononoke franchise.

After two major incidents involving Mononoke - a deadly battle between a medicine seller wielding a demon-slaying sword and a Karakasa umbrella, and the subsequent showdown with the Fire Rat - it seemed as though peace had finally arrived in the inner palace. However, the medicine seller still sensed a lingering presence of "something" and remained vigilant. Meanwhile, Empress Sachiko, the wife of the ruling emperor, is blessed with a long-awaited baby boy, but her joy is short-lived as she passes away despite the hopes and prayers of those around her.

This is the incipit that concludes the film trilogy, which also sees the confirmation of the second film's staff, with Kenji Nakamura as general director, Tomoaki Koshida as director at Studio Kafka (replacing Twin Engine) and EOTA, Yasumi Atarashi on the screenplay, Kitsuneko Nagata as character designer, Yuichi Takahashi as animation director, and Kenichi Shirai as 3D director.

After the first Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain released in July 2024 [news] and the second Mononoke the Movie: Chapter II - The Ashes of Rage released in March 2025 [news], the third and final chapter was released in Japanese theaters on May 29 and will be available on Netflix from September 29.
