The new anime film We Are Aliens, expected in theaters nationwide this year, has been selected for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. Info and a new trailer below.

We Are Aliens (orig. Ware Ware wa Uchūjin) is a co-production by Kohei Kadowaki (writer, director, storyboard, editor) with his young studios Nothing New (Japan) and the French studios Miyu. It brings to the big screen a coming-of-age story centered on two young boys. The two spend irreplaceable time in a small world. However, after a trivial incident, their relationship is torn apart.

The anime film centers on Tsubasa and Akitarō, two boys who as elementary school students became close friends, but jealousy and misunderstandings eventually drove them apart. Years have passed and the two boys have gone in different directions in life. But when the memories from their past come back, they must face what happened between them years ago.

Co-produced with a crowdfunding campaign, the film has been selected for the "Directors' Fortnight" section of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, and is expected in Japanese theaters in 2026.
