The first anime film in the new trilogy of the Made in Abyss saga, expected in Japanese theaters this fall, has been released with the first trailer and information. Find the promo below.
Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery is the international title of the film (originally titled Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi), the first in a new trilogy following two anime series (2017 and 2022) and a feature film (2020), which have garnered good reviews.
In the story, a massive cave system called the "Abyss" is the only unexplored place in the world. Strange and wondrous creatures reside in its depths, and it is filled with precious relics that modern humans are incapable of creating. Adventurers who venture into the pit are known as Cave Raiders. An orphaned girl named Riko lives in the town of Orth, on the edge of the Abyss. One day, Riko begins exploring the caves and discovers a robot resembling a human boy.
Some of the staff are returning to the series, including director Masayuki Kojima (Black Bullet, Tibetan Dog), screenwriter Hideyuki Kurata, and character designer Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture, xxxHOLiC) and Yuka Kuroda (Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun). The animation is still being produced by Kinema Citrus.
Expected in Japanese theaters in Fall 2026, here's the first teaser:
