The Mobile Police Patlabor reborn in a new anime: Patlabor EZY
Read...

The robotic anime Patlabor, created by the Headgear collective in the late 1980s, returns with a new project. Find info and promo below.
The Headgear collective was a Japanese artist collective led by Mamoru Oshii and composed of Kazunori Ito (scriptwriter), Akemi Takada (illustrator and character designer), Yutaka Izubuchi (mecha design), and Masami Yuki (manga artist).
The collective's most important work is Kido keisatsu Patlabor, more simply known as Patlabor, which has produced manga, OVA series, television series, feature films (both animated and live-action), video games, and model kits.
This year, the Mobile Police robots are ready to return with Patlabor EZY, an anime consisting of 8 episodes that will be screened in theaters in three parts: "File 1" on May 15th with the first three episodes; "File 2" on August 14th with the next three and finally "File 3" in March 2027 with the last episodes that will tell a two-parts story.
The events is now set in the 2030s, with Japan facing increased labor shortage and increased automation via AI. Labors, the piloted mecha that was once considered cutting edge technology for manual labor, has become just another part of life, with piloted Labors themselves increasingly being replaced with autonomous robots. SV-2's job of preventing Labor crimes remains the same even in this age, as they use a tuned-up version of their original SV-98 Ingrams.
The anime is being produced by J.C. Staff with part of Headgear returning to the project, including mecha designer Yutaka Izubuchi as director, scriptwriter Kazunori Ito as the new story writer, illustrator Akemi Takada as costume designer, and composer Kenji Kawai as the music composer. Taro Maki (Patlabor, Millennium Actress) is the producer. Kanetake Ebikawa (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury) and Toshiaki Ihara (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time) are handling the mechanical design. Yoshinori Moriizumi (Pokémon movies) is the CG director produced by GAZEN studios.
