January 2026 will mark the return to theaters of Japanese director Shoji Kawamori with his new project Labyrinth. Watch the trailer below.
Labyrinth (orig. Meikyu no Shiori) centers on Shiori Maezawa, a completely ordinary high school girl who finds herself in a deserted parallel world of Yokohama after her smartphone suddenly breaks. When she checks her phone, she finds photos of herself on her social media accounts that she does not remember posting. In order to stop her other self from going out of control, Shiori tries to escape from her smartphone's strange labyrinth.

Talented anime director, writer, and mecha designer (Escaflowne, Macross Zero, Aquarion, Macross Frontier, and more) Shoji Kawamori is set to return with a new film titled Meikyu no Shiori (Labyrinth or literally Shori of the Labyrinth).

Kawamori is directing the film, his first feature film based on an original work, at Sanzigen. The original story concept is credited to Slow Curve, Vector Vision, GAGA, and Fuji Television, with Risa Ebata (Macross Frontier) designing the characters and Taichi Hashimoto writing the screenplay.

Expected in Japanese theaters on January 1, 2026, here is a new trailer:
