Shrek 5 confirmed by DreamWorks Animation, but we will have to wait

The studios DreamWorks Animation via their social media have confirmed the work on the new chapter of their first and great franchise: Shrek 5.
With a poster, the American studios owned by Universal Picture and directed by Christopher Meledandri (Illuminations's founder) announced the making of the new film after the rumors of Eddie Murphy (Donkey) [news].

The feature film arrives after the 4 chapters which grossed worldwide respectively Shrek $488 million, Shrek 2 $932 million, Shrek 3 $813 million and Shrek 4 $752 million, to which are added the two Puss in Boots spin-offs $554 million + $481 million. Therefore a franchise with stratospheric numbers which it was inevitable to aim for again.

The new film will be directed by Walt Dohrn and Brad Ableson and with the story conceived by Michael McCullers and creative director Meledandri himself.

The studios confirm that the original cast of voice actors will return including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas (Banderas still not confirmed) and Cameron Diaz.

However, we will have to wait to see it in theateers, as the poster reminds us: July 1, 2026.
