The nominations of the 2021 Academy Awards
The nominations for the Academy Awards, the 2021 American film awards, have just been announced. All the animated titles below.
Of the 27 titles nominated from all over the world, the shortlist presents only 5, of which 3 American (2 by the same studio and one co-produced in China) and 2 European. So you never (rarely) go east of the old continent, leaving out much more popular titles, with very high box office, excellent reviews and stories far from the comedies to which western animation cinema (American) is inextricably linked.
Here are the titles that will compete for the statuette as Best Animated Film 2021:
- ONWARD Production: Dan Scanlon, Kori Rae Studios: Pixar Animation Studios (USA)
- OVER THE MOON Production: Glen Keane, Gennie Rim, Peilin Chou Studios: Pearl Studio, Sony Pictures Imageworks (China/USA)
- A SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE: FARMAGEDDON Production: Richard Phelan, Will Becher, Paul Kewley Studios: Aardman Animations (UK)
- SOUL Production: Pete Docter, Dana Murray Studios: Pixar Animation Studios (USA)
- WOLFWALKERS Production: Tomm Moore, Ross Stewart, Paul Young, Stéphan Roelants Studios: Cartoon Saloon (Ireland)
Among the most quoted to win there are these last two titles.
