First animations for the upcoming anime series The Ghost in the Shell
The cyberpunk world created by the brilliant Masamune Shirow returns with a new anime: The Ghost in the Shell. Info, teaser trailer, and release date below.
Shirow's late-1980s manga, which has become a phenomenon that has inspired and influenced the cyberpunk thriller genre for decades, has landed at Science SARU studios, founded just over a decade ago by producer Eunyoung Choi and director Masaaki Yuasa.
The new television series promises to stay true to the original manga, adapting the visuals for a new generation.
Introduced on these pages about a year ago, The Ghost in the Shell marks the directorial debut of Mokochan (Dan Da Dan, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off), a student of director Yuasa. The script is written by science fiction author EnJoe Toh, while Shuhei Handa (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Spriggan) is the character designer and executive animation director. The music department is headed by Taisei Iwasaki (Belle), who also composes the music alongside Ryo Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka (Dr. Stone).
Produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G, the series will premiere on Japanese television in July 2026.
