Acclaimed at the festivals where it has been screened, the feature film Tangles is showcased in a promo, which also reveals its initial theatrical release date in its home country.
As Sarah finds love and independence in 1990s San Francisco, a visit home reunites her with her vibrant mother Midge and the wonderfully imperfect family that shaped her. When Midge is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Sarah discovers that while family is never simple, the ties that bind us - through laughter, heartbreak and joy - endure even as memories begin to fade.

Tangles is produced by Independent Film Company, Monarch Media, Point Grey Pictures, Giant Ant Films, and LYLAS Pictures. Directed by Leah Nelson, the film is based on the autobiographical graphic novel by Sarah Leavitt, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside the director and Trev Renney.

Created using black-and-white, two-dimensional animation, the film is the work of the Vancouver-based studio Giant Ant. The voice cast features a stellar lineup, including Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen, Samira Wiley, Sarah Silverman, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon, and Fern Grandin.

Having been presented at Annecy, Cannes, and other festivals, the film will hold preview screenings in New York and Los Angeles next month, making it eligible for the 2027 Academy Awards. It will receive a limited theatrical release in North America on January 15, 2027, followed by a wider release on January 22.
