Trailer for the South Korean feature film Pilgrims

Read...
A science fiction story is the basis of the feature film Pilgrims, a work produced in South Korea that is arriving in domestic theaters.
Pilgrims is a low-budget animated feature film directed by Pyeon-Gang Ho, an artist who has worked on numerous animated productions in Korea and Japan, with art direction by Hyun Song We (KPop Demon Hunters) and production by 21Studios.

The film is adapted from the science fiction story Why Don't the Pilgrims Return? by Kim Cho-yeop, published in 2019.

The premise is part interstellar mystery and part coming-of-age tale: in a sealed-off space utopia, free from pain and suffering, eighteen-year-olds are required to make a year-long pilgrimage to Earth as a rite of passage, and some never return. The reason for this absence is the question that drives the entire narrative, with the characters committed to unraveling a secret that extends to the afterlife.

Presented at Annecy, the approximately one-hour film is coming to theaters in South Korea on June 3.
