Disney and Marvel, after a bit of a wait, will return to the world of mutants for the second season of the animated series X-Men '97. Trailer and date below.
Thirty years after the animated series X-Men: The Animated Series (5 seasons and 76 episodes), Marvel has produced X-Men '97, a 10-episode series released in 2024 with an 8.7/10 rating on IMDb and a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The new season will pick up after the shocking finale of the first season, with the X-Men scattered across different timelines and searching for a way home. In the 1990s, anti-mutant sentiment continued to grow, while new enemies emerged during the team's absence.
The cast will not include the return of Beau DeMayo, head writer and series creator, who was fired before the series premiere, but his name will still be credited for material provided in the new episodes. The new executive producers are Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, Louis D'Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Julia Lewald, Eric Lewald, and Larry Houston.
Produced by Marvel Animation, the directors of the new episodes are Emmett Yonemura and Chase Conley. Writers include DeMayo, J.B. Ballard, Bailey Moore, Antony Sellitti, Brian Ford Sullivan, and Mariah Wilson.
