Expected this summer on Japanese small screens, we show you below promos and info on the original anime Goodbye, Lara.
Goodbye, Lara (orig. Sayonara Lara) tells a story similar to Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" in that it follows a mermaid who makes a forbidden wish: to be loved by a human. After her death, she is reborn 200 years later in modern-day Japan, in Lake Biwa, where she learns to adapt to the human world.
The series is produced by Kinema Citrus studios, and is directed by Takushi Koide, who was born in Shiga Prefecture, home to Lake Biwa, the main setting of the anime's story. The screenplay is by Anna Kawahara, the character designs by Shiori Tani, and the music is by Yuma Yamaguchi.
With the premiere scheduled for July 2026, below is a promo featuring the opening theme song "Sayonara Lara" from Ikimono-gakari:
