The anime series Rascal Does Not Dream based on the novels of the same name will conclude this fall with the film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend. Promo and visuals below.
Hajime Kamoshida's light novel series, Rascal Does Not Dream (orig. Seishun Buta Yaro or Aobuta), specifically the events of the 15th and final volume, will be animated in the film Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend (orig. Seishun Buta Yarō wa Dear Friend no Yume o Minai).
In the series, the protagonist helps several girls, including his girlfriend Mai Sakurajima, overcome "Puberty Syndrome": supernatural phenomena that are physical manifestations of adolescent emotional distress, often resolved through confrontation and self-acceptance.
The new film is being presented as the one that will bring the story to its conclusion, produced by CloverWorks studios with the return of almost the entire staff: Soichi Masui as director, Masahiro Yokotani as screenwriter, Satomi Tamura as character designer, and the band Fox Capture Plan as music composer.
The film follows Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, the first 13-episode television anime produced in 2018, the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl anime film produced in 2019, two theatrical films Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid produced in 2023, and a new 13-episode series Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus released last summer.
The final film is expected in theaters on October 16, distributed in Japan by Aniplex.
