As expected, the Netflix-produced feature film KPop Demon Hunters also won two Academy Awards. And the sequel is already in production.
Last night, the Academy Awards, Hollywood's Oscars, were awarded. In the animated feature film section, where Arco, Elio, Little Amelie, Zootopia 2, and the Netflix's feature film were nominated, the latter triumphed.

KPop Demon Hunters is the phenomenon set in the world of South Korean music productions mixed with science fiction, amassed over 500 million streaming views on the platform (Netflix's most popular title of all time) and prestigious awards such as Annie, Critics Choice, Golden Globes, VES, in addition to the two Oscars (Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song) collected last night for a total (currently) of 94 awards and an additional 51 nominations.

The important news for this title is released directly by the platform: "Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to direct the sequel." The sequel film will be the first project to emerge from Netflix’s multi-year exclusive writing and directing collaboration in the animation field with Kang and Appelhans.

"I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters" says Kang. "There's so much more to this world we have built, and I'm excited to show you. This is only the beginning".

Appelhans says, These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We're excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve - and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together"

Fans will still have to wait several years to see it come to fruition.

Here's the song "Golden," which won last night:

In the Best Animated Short Films section, the winner was The Girl Who Cried Pearls by Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski.
