Makoto Shinkai's new film over 4 billion Yen in 11 days
The latest film created by the young and talented author and director Makoto Shinkai, Weathering With You [news], confirms the first place at the Japanese box office after two weeks.
The original title is Tenki no Ko (translated with The Weather Girl), the new film written and directed by Shinkai, with animations produced by CoMix Wave studios, character design by Masayoshi Tanaka (Your Name), animations direction by Atsuhi Tamura (Gundam: The Origin) and artistic direction by Hiroshi Takiguchi.
Released in Japanese theaters last week, the film has already surpassed 4 billion Yen (about $36 million) with 3 million of tickets sold in just 11 days. Compared to Your Name it has registered a + 28.6% in the first three days.
It is estimated that at the end the film should exceed 10 billion Yen (about $93 million).
The story is about a boy and a girl whose destinies are upset in an era where the climate is increasingly unpredictable and has a great impact on everyday life. Hodaka Morishima, a high school student from a remote island in Japan, leaves home to settle in Tokyo, where she meets Hina Amano, a girl with a mysterious power that allows her to create good weather only by praying.
