A Saudi Prince wants to become the Walt Disney of Arabia


An international partnership has been presented in these days to Cannes with regards to the animated sector, the first between an Arabic and a Japanese studio.


A collaboration started with the production of an animated series (2017) between the Arabic Manga Productions and Japanese Toei Animation, which now continues with the first feature film The Journey which will be completed next year, presented in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival still in progress.

Manga Production is based in Riyadh and is a subsidiary of Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Foundation, responsible for the concept of the film, writing and pre-production, as well as overseeing dubbing on Arab territories.

As he himself admits, the brand is responsible for creating animated content, video games and comics that "promote Saudi culture along with a message of internationality".

The Journey is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan films), written by Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokémon films), with the character design by Tatsuro Iwamoto and the music composed by Kaoru Wada (Ninja Scroll, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, Inuyasha).
