Netflix is developing Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon Anime


Science fiction is a breeding ground for Anime productions and Netflix knows all that. The upcoming series are inspired to two blockbuster titles that will see the light in the coming years.


As part of its expasion, Netflix make new deals with creatives in Asia. Part of the commitment includes an impressive anime slate with a host of talent brought on board.

Some new productions include two projects: two spin-offs of titles such as Pacific Rim and Altered Carbon. The first title includes two blockbuster film with great robots and kaiju and the filmaker Guillermo Del Toro. The second is an original Netflix live-action series with the second season still in production.

Pacific Rim Anime will expand the film's universe following two siblings, an idealistic teenage boy and his younger sister, who are forced to pilot an abandoned Jaeger across a hostile landscape in a desperate attempt to find their missing parents. Showrunner of the series are Craig Kyle (Thor: Ragnarok) and Greg Johnson (X-Men: Evolution) for Legacy Entertainment production.

Altered Carbon anime, set in the same universe of the Netflix sci-fi series, will explore new elements of the story mythology. Behind the script: Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and Tsukasa Kondo.

There are no dates for these productions but Netflix admits that the first ones will be released as early as 2019, and announcements of new productions will follow soon.
