The film The Apothecary Diaries - The Late Lady's Treasure in theaters
Following the TV series, the anime The Apothecary Diaries returns with a feature film that Sony will bring to theaters worldwide.
Synopsis: The Emperor issues an order to Renshi: he must fulfill the final wish of a concubine who died five years earlier by returning her remains to her homeland. Upon examining the body to prepare for its return to her family, Renshi discovers it is in pristine condition—looking as stunning as if she were still alive. To solve the mystery surrounding the corpse, Renshi drags Maomao along on a journey to Binan-shu, the southern province ruled by the Bi clan. They arrive in a bustling city built upon the water. Maomao is thrilled to encounter plants and medicinal ingredients she has never seen before, yet the atmosphere is thick with tension, as pirates are fiercely hunting for a treasure hidden by their late leader.
The film is titled The Apothecary Diaries - The Late Lady's Treasure (orig. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bohi no Hiho), with an original story written by author Yuko Kakihara. The film is directed by Norihiro Naganuma, character designs by Yukiko Nakatani, a score composed by the trio of Arisa Okehazama, Kevin Penkin, and Satoru Kosaki, and animation produced by TOHO animation.
The popular anime series based on the light novels by Hyuga and Touko Shino, has previously been adapted into two anime seasons totaling 48 episodes (produced in 2023 and 2025), with a third season currently underway.
The anime film is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on December 11 and will be distributed in theaters worldwide starting in 2027 by Crunchyroll and Sony.
