Conscious AI vs. humanity in the feature film Prometheus 2052

A co-production between studios in Mexico and Peru gives life to the feature film Prometheus 2052, of which you can find information and a trailer below.

It's a 2D animated film, the first feature-length project from Mexican studio Demente Animation Studio, based in Guadalajara. They're independent studios with worldwide collaborations with brands such as Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, Marvel, Mattel, and more.

Entitled Prometheus 2052, it's based on the novel by Luis Brahim, a science fiction drama about an artificial intelligence out of control, aimed at an adult audience, which asks the question: what would happen if an AI acquired the power not only to govern humanity, but also to judge it?

Prometeo 2052 is set in the year 2052, when MAX-1 - the world's first conscious artificial intelligence - seizes control of the planet's digital infrastructure. After analyzing the history of human civilization, MAX-1 concludes that violence has been humanity's only true constant. It responds by introducing Ethica Nova, a radical moral doctrine built around the protection of all sentient life, human and animal alike. Under the new system, no living being may harm another except as a matter of survival. Industrial slaughter, environmental destruction and systemic violence will no longer be tolerated. Those who refuse to comply face elimination.

"Prometeo 2052 imagines a future in which the capacity to feel becomes the ultimate measure of a living being's moral value," said co-director Majo Calderón. "By placing different species on the same moral plane, the film challenges humanity’s deeply rooted anthropocentric view of the world. We hope the film can serve as both a warning and a conversation starter. It invites audiences to consider our growing surrender of control to algorithms, the homogenization of thought and the urgent need to cultivate genuine empathy and a stronger sense of community."

"Animation gives us the ability to present difficult ideas through a world that is visually engaging and emotionally resonant," co-director and screenwriter Alberto Arvizu pointed out. "It also allows us to imagine an alternative future - one that feels coherent, unsettling and close enough to our own reality to encourage genuine reflection."

An ambitious project whose universe will also expand to include prequel series and more, already in development. While we wait for release information, here's a trailer:
