Aachi and Ssipak - An extraordinary South Korean adventure

Originally produced 20 years ago but never officially released in the West, the feature film Aachi and Ssipak is now available on the independent platform Darkroom.

In a dystopian future where all natural resources have been depleted, human waste has become the city’s sole source of energy. To maximize energy production, the government incentivizes defecation by rewarding citizens with "Hard" - which are highly addictive, hallucinogenic popsicles.
Before long, a group of mutated outcasts known as the "Bojagi Gang" emerges. Having lost their ability to defecate due to severe “Hard” addiction, they are brutally exiled from the city for being "unproductive."
With "Hard" becoming the ultimate status symbol of wealth, the city spirals into a lawless wasteland plagued by constant looting and violence. For Aachi and Ssipak, two street thugs who scrape by through the illicit "Hard" trade, survival is getting harder by the day.

The animated comedy, which won an award at Sitges, is directed by Jo Beom-jin and co-written by Hye won Jeong and Sang Gyun Kang. Produced by J Team, using primarily 2D animation, the feature promises to be wacky and hilarious.
