John Carter of Mars - The first animated series is coming
The first animated series of Burroughs's popular novel series featuring John Carter and the red planet Mars is in the works. Here's the first information.
The title is John Carter, Warlord of Mars: The Animated Series, the first animated production of Edgar Rice Burroughs's series of novels published since 1912, the first titled "A Princess of Mars," which follows the adventures of John Carter, a Civil War veteran, who is mysteriously transported to Mars, where he finds himself caught up in the conflicts between the planet's inhabitants.
The co-showrunner and writer of the series is Michael Kogge, writer for Lucasfilm, joined as co-showrunner and supervising director by Mark Andrews, a veteran of numerous animated productions from shorts to series and feature films including Pixar's Brave, which he directed, Oscar winner in 2013, and co-writer of the live-action John Carter (2012) for Disney with director Andrew Stanton and Michael Chabon.
"Animation is the best way to achieve the visual intensity and scope the story demands, and finally the tools and technology have arrived to deliver them," Andrews said in a statement, adding, "Animation is the perfect medium to bring Burroughs’ world to life."
The staff also includes Jim Sullos and Wolf Larson, who will oversee the series for the company that holds the author's rights, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc..
Release dates, production studios, or distribution have not yet been announced. A panel will be held in a few days at Comic-Con Int. in San Diego, where both Kogge and Andrews will be present.
