A mystery to be solved in the anime film To You in the Beyond

The new anime film To You in the Beyond, based on the novel of the same name, is expected in Japanese theaters this fall. Info and a promo video follow.

The novel's story centers on a boy named Kazuki Tsukigase, who transfers to a high school on a remote island to get away from anyone who knows him. Kazuki finds out that there is an inlet on the island where people are rumored to disappear. Exploring the inlet, he encounters an unconscious girl. When she comes to after Kazuki takes her to the clinic, she is unable to give out anything about her identity except that she is named Nao, is 16 years old, and whispers the year "1974".

The novel To You and The Beyond (orig. Doko Yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e) was written by Akiko Abe in the summer of 2017 and published the following October with illustrations by syo5. The manga version was published last year by Haruka Chino.

The anime is produced by the prestigious TMS Entertainment with direction by Junichi Wada (High Card), scripts by Sayaka Kuwamura (The Tiger and the Fish), and character designs by Hechima (Cosmic Princess Kaguya!), who is also the chief animator director.

The film will be released in theaters by Shochiku on October 9.

The author expressed his opinion on the script, which doesn't fully reflect the original story, but he's pleased with the changes made, which better suit the animations.
