Animated film budget comparison: US, EU and Asia
Let's take stock of the budgets spent to make an animated feature film in the three main regions of the world in the last year.
The quality of the animation, the styles used, and more, the production process behind an animated feature film varies depending on the part of the world where it's made. From projects made solely with a focus on box office to the most daring stories, the list below shows the differences, not only in terms of costs, but especially in terms of storytelling. These choices demonstrate originality, a quality that varies greatly depending on the region where the work is produced. While in Asia, the highest-grossing films are driven by manga, anime, and successful franchises, in the US, the choices are almost always influenced by the major studios' focus on CGI comedies and sequels. In Europe, experimentation is almost always more common.
Of course, there are always exceptions, no matter where in the world. The list focuses on productions from the last year or so, those with known budgets.
You can compare the budgets below with the box office figures for the past year, which we published on this page.
*Pixar's Elio had production problems and the budget increased enormously but it was not confirmed.
