Black Butterflies is the best film of the 8th Quirino Award


The award for animated productions that includes 23 countries and Hispanic territories between Europe and America rewards the feature film Black Butterflies. Below are all the winners.


The 8th Iberian-American Quirino Awards held last weekend in La Laguna on the island of Tenerife, saw the Spanish's Black Butterflies (at home Mariposas Negras) by David Baute triumph as best feature film, the Brazilian's Jorel's Brother as best animated series and the Uruguayan's Capybaras by Alfredo Soderguit as best animated short.

The documentary director Baute, born in Tenerife, makes his debut in the animated world with the feature film that follows three women from very different parts of the world, forced to migrate because of the climate crisis. The film is based on Baute's 2020 documentary "Ésodo climatico" which won the Goya and Platino Awards. Black Butterflies is written by Baute and Yaiza Berrocal and produced by Spain's Ikiru Films and Tinglado Film (based in Tenerife), together with Panama's Anangu Grup.
