Born on 19 March 1964 in the prefecture of Miyagi, Japan, Yoko Kanno is one of the best, if not the best composer, arranger and musician of soundtracks of all the rising sun.
His genres range from classical, orchestral, pop, electro rock, folk to jazz and even new age; there are no limits to the melodies and rhythms explored by this artist.

Yoko started composing music when she was very young, writing songs for a boy she liked. The main influences that she specifies are the artists Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy.
Yoko is married to another composer, Hajime Mizoguchi, with whom she collaborated on the soundtracks of Please Save My Earth and Escaflowne.

Her major works are made for the Japanese animation industry. Screenwriters and directors give the first instructions, the production guidelines, that will help in the composition, but the latter will be totally in the dark of the compositions of Kanno until finished work. She herself admitted that it's her only favorite way to work, until she herself admits some objections during the work.
